Blizzcon 08: WoW & Diablo 3 Press Conference

At a small jam conference, WoW Production Director J. Allen Brack and Diablo III Lead Designer Jay Wilson took questions from assembled staff members from various Warcraft and Diablo fansites along a wide scope of topics – with a a few exclusive tidbits of information coming out in the process.

Diablo Threesome Not a Subscription Game

Gamers and press alike had been concerned over the surprise Apocalypse that Blizzard had been discussing ways to monetize their multiplayer Struggle.nett service. When asked to clarify, Robert Woodrow Wilson admitted that they weren't even sure themselves what form the monetization would take, but he was inflexible that D3 would not glucinium a subscription-founded crippled: players will not undergo to pay to play the game. What they will have to ante up for is still up in the air.

Arthas Kill Confirmed?

In response to a inquiry about whether OR non players would be able to vote out Northrend's Big Bad – Arthas the Lich King – Brack likewise responded that since they had not yet designed the specifics of the encounter, he couldn't say for certain either manner. He did suggest that it would exist unlikely for Arthas to survive his encounter with players, pointing out that not only had Blizzard not been afraid to kill sour major lore characters in Burning Drive corresponding Gentlewoman Vashj or Illidan, bosses rarely outlived their battles in any event as a general rule of finger.

They'd smooth introduced a new group of baddies in WoW itself with the Old Gods – World Health Organization will be playing a larger role in Northrend.

Since the specifics of the Arthas clash were still in the lead in everyone's thoughts, so was the fate of Arthas' unreal rune-sword, Frostmourne. Brack acknowledged with a chuckle that there were a "fewer problems" with having all player on the server carrying their own Frostmourne around, but said that the evolution team hadn't quite settled on a solution. They had looked at options such arsenic making Frostmourne a once-per-waiter known drop, or letting players only loot a "Shard of Frostmourne," itself a legendary weapon in its own right-wing … but not the full blade.

WoW Will Take "Paying Character Customization"

When asked to extend upon a clitoris found by sifting through the Lich Queen Beta's information files titled "Nonrecreational Part Customization," Brack at first hesitated to give any answer at all. Respective questions later, he went back to the matter, saying that he could, in fact, confirm that Creation of Warcraft would eventually have whatsoever form of paid character customization, though they themselves hadn't yet worked out any details.

Diablo Terzetto Company Circumscribed to Four

On the Blizzcon show floor, the number of players healthy to connect a multiplayer school term of D3 was capped at four, half that of Diablo II. While Jay Wilson cautioned the chemical group that this was not by a long sight a final judgment for the game's direction, it was a number that "grows more solid all day." In Diablo II, IT was highly rare to find an eight-person crippled where altogether octonary citizenry were playing put together, and patc playing and testing internally, D3 didn't feel right wing with a large party size – there were "too many people."

Wilson too dismissed oddly-haunting rumors that Diablo would ship before StarCraft II, though atomic number 2 jokingly accepted that helium "wished it was true."

WarCraft IV Likely … Sometime

The Snowstorm developers were very aware that players were interested in having a new Warcraft entitle other than WoW, aforementioned Brack. However, the design team who would be responsible for a true RTS sequel to the Warcraft serial were currently busy with getting StarCraft II come out of the closet the door, and would be for rather some time. In the end, Brack emphasized that it was ultimately raised to that RTS team up; they wouldn't work at a project they weren't passionate about themselves.
